REVIVE 10 BAKERIES
Bread is the staple Yemeni food. Import restrictions have increased the cost of wheat flour, and prevailing insecurity in many parts of the country has restricted bakeries from staying open. Reviving bakeries is an opportunity to provide fresh and local bread to the population while reducing aid dependency and restarting the local economy.
The project will support the revival of 10 closed bakeries and improve access to fresh and local bread for conflict-affected populations through (i) rehabilitating damaged bakeries; (iii) providing wheat flour, baking tools and fuel for ovens; and (iii) providing tricycles for bread delivery services in the communities. Youth from the area will have the opportunity to turn bread delivery into a social business venture and generate income for themselves.
