Why?

Rural women are the active agricultural labour force in Sa’ada’s Al-Anad area and greenhouse vegetable farming is their primary livelihood income source. The Al-Anad area supplies fresh vegetables to surrounding villages and major cities, including Sa’ada City. Most of the greenhouses, including their water irrigation networks, have been damaged due to the war and the aerial campaign. Remaining greenhouses are not cultivated, despite their income and food security potential as fuel costs and electricity shortage limits waters pumping for irrigation.

How?

This project will revive local fruit and vegetable production. It will (i) procure and install five greenhouses; (ii) provide farming tools and equipment; (iii) procure solar-operated water pumps; (iii) seeds and fertilizers; (vi) packaging material and equipment for fruits and vegetables; and (iv) technical trainings in product handling, quality and safety. Women producer associations will have the opportunity to better sell their produce at higher value price.
